Our Health, Safety, Medical & Welfare Policies cover all areas associated with the well-being of our children such as the fire drill procedure, our critical incident and first aid policies and the safeguarding policies for both children and staff as well as addressing day-to-day issues such as our sunscreen policy and how we manage sick or infectious children.
Health and Safety General Standards Policy: This setting believes the health and safety of children is of paramount importance. We make our setting a safe and healthy place for children, parents, staff and volunteers by assessing and minimising the hazards and risks to enable children to thrive in a healthy and safe environment. Behaviour
Achieving Positive Behaviour Policy: Triangle Pre-School believes that children flourish best when their personal, social and emotional needs are met and where there are clear and developmental expectations for their behaviour. Review due October 2024.
Physical Intervention: This policy should be read in conjunction with our Achieving Positive Behaviour Policy. All staff within the setting will help children take responsibility for their own behaviour. This can be done through a combination of approaches. Review due October 2024.
Incident and emergency
Critical Incident Policy: Triangle Pre-School recognises the need to have a critical incident plan, which would be implemented in the event of a ‘serious disruption arising without warning on a scale beyond the coping capacity of the pre-school’. Review due October 2024.
Fire Drill Procedure: In the event of a fire, this procedure will be carried out.
Fire Safety and Emergency Evacuation Policy: We ensure our premises present no risk of fire by ensuring the highest possible standard of fire evacuations. Review due October 2024.
Missing Child Policy: Children’s safety is our highest priority both on and off the premises. Every attempt is made through carrying out the entrance/exit procedure and outings procedures to ensure the security of children is maintained at all times. In the unlikely event of a child going missing our missing child procedure is followed. Review due October 2024.
Learning and development
Selecting Equipment and Toys Policy: The toys and equipment in our pre-school provide opportunities for children with adult help to develop new skills in their play and exploration. Review due October 2024.
Supporting children with Special Educational Needs: We provide an environment in which all children with special educational needs (SEN) are supported to reach their full potential. Review due October 2024.
Medical and welfare
Administering of Medicines Policy: It is not our policy to look after sick children who should be at home until they are well enough to return to the setting but we will administer medication as part of maintaining a child’s health or well being or when they are recovering from an illness. Review due October 2024.
Control of Substances Hazardous to Health: In line with our other Risk Assessment and Health and Safety measures we take steps to implement the current guidelines regarding COSHH regulations. Review due October 2024.
Face Painting: Children are face-painted only if parents have given prior written consent. Verbal consent is fine for events where the parents are present. Review due October 2025.
First Aid Policy: In our setting staff are able to take action to apply first aid treatment in the event of an accident involving a child or an adult. All our staff have a current Paediatric First Aid qualification. Review due October 2024.
Food and Drink Policy: This setting regards snack and meal times as an important part of the day. Eating represents a social time for children and helps children learn about healthy eating. At snack time we aim to provide nutritious food which meets the children’s individual dietary needs. We aim to encourage parents to make sure their child’s lunch box contains a healthy and nutritious meal. Review due October 2025.
Managing a Suspected Case of Covid: If it is suspected that a child has COVID, staff will not attempt to diagnose or make assumptions about symptoms presented. They will immediately respond and take action as detailed in this procedure. This includes asking parents/carers to seek further advice from a medical practitioner who may/or may not advise that the symptoms meet the criteria for testing. In which case if the child appears well and displays no further suspect symptoms, they can return to the setting within the timescale advised by the medical practitioner. The focus on coronavirus must not detract from staff being alert to the signs and symptoms linked to other serious illness. Review due October 2024.
Managing Children with Allergies or who are Sick or Infectious: We provide care for healthy children and promote health by identifying allergies and preventing contact with the allergic substance and through preventing cross infection of viruses and bacterial infections. Review due October 2024.
Nappy Changing Policy: No child is excluded from our setting who may, for any reason, not yet be toilet trained and who may still be wearing nappies or equivalent. We work with parents towards toilet training, unless there are medical or other developmental reasons why this may not be appropriate at the time. Review due October 2024.
No-smoking policy: We comply with health and safety regulations and the safeguarding and welfare requirements of the EYFS in making our setting a non-smoking environment both indoors and outdoors. Review due October 2024.
Prior Injuries Policy: It is our policy that all injuries already visible upon a child when they arrive at pre-school must be recorded in the Prior Injuries Report Book. Review due October 2024.
Sun Screen Policy: At Triangle Pre-school we want all children to enjoy the sun safely. We will work with parents and carers to achieve this. Review due October 2024.
Safeguarding and supervision
Risk assessment – Shared Premises: Triangle Preschool recognises that it does not rent the entirety of the premises for the times it is open and is operating within a shared premises. This policy outlines our risk assessment of the situation and steps we take to ensure the safety of our children. Review due October 2024.
Safeguarding Children & Child Protection Policy: Our setting will work with children, parents and the community to ensure the rights and safety of children and to give them the very best start in life. Our safeguarding policy is based on the three key commitments of the Pre-school Learning Alliance Safeguarding Children Policy. Review due October 2024.
Safeguarding Staff Policy: This documents the action that will be taken in the event of a staff member experiencing a verbally aggressive complaint or a physical attack from a parent. Review due October 2024.
Supervision Policy: Our pre-school provides termly supervision for staff who have contact with children and families. We will ensure that our supervision is effective, providing support, coaching and training for the practitioner and promoting the best interests of children. This will foster a culture which promotes mutual support, teamwork, and continuous improvement, which will encourage the confidential discussion of sensitive issues whilst acknowledging our confidentiality policy. Uncollected Child Policy: In the event that a child is not collected by an authorised adult at the end of a pre-school session, the pre-school puts into practice agreed procedures. These ensure that the child is cared for safely by an experienced and qualified practitioner who is known to the child. Review due October 2024.
